Attendance Policy
Consistent attendance is crucial for the development of our swimmers and the success of our team. We understand that swimmers may have other commitments, such as camps, vacations, or family events scheduled over the summer. However, regular attendance at practices and meets is expected.
Practice Attendance
- Weekly Requirement and Excused Absences
- To be eligible to participate in a meet within a given week, swimmers are expected to attend a majority of the scheduled practices or have excused absences for a majority of the scheduled practices for that week. "Majority" is defined as attending or having excused absences for more than 50% of the scheduled practices.
- For example, if there are four practices scheduled in a week, a swimmer must either attend at least three practices or have an excused absence for at least three practices.
- Notification of Absences
- Parents/guardians are required to notify the coaching staff in advance of any planned absences from practice, including vacations, camps, or other commitments.
- Notification should be provided via email to Coach Josh.
- In the case of unexpected absences due to illness or emergency, parents/guardians should notify the coaching staff as soon as possible.
- Impact on Meet Participation
- Swimmers who do not meet the weekly practice attendance requirement or have not provided notification of excused absences may not be eligible to participate in meets that week, at the coach's discretion.
- Coaches will consider individual circumstances and may make exceptions in certain cases, but regular notification of planned absences is crucial.
- Excused Absences
- Excused absences include illness, family emergencies, school events, and pre-notified vacations or camps, and other unavoidable circumstances.
- Parents/guardians must provide notification of excused absences prior to the absence.
- Unexcused Absences
- Unexcused absences include missing practice without prior notification or for reasons deemed unacceptable by the coaching staff.
- Repeated unexcused absences may result in disciplinary action, as outlined in the team's discipline policy. Unexcused absences do not count towards meet eligibility.
Meet Attendance
- Commitment to Meets
- When a swimmer commits to participating in a meet, they are expected to attend.
- If a swimmer is unable to attend a meet after committing, parents/guardians must notify the coaching staff as soon as possible.
- Notification of Meet Absences
- Notification of committed meet absences should be provided via Commit Message to all coaches.
- Failure to provide timely notification may result in the swimmer being removed from the meet lineup for their next committed meet.
- Consequences of Unexcused Meet Absences
- Failure to participate in a committed meet without a sufficient excuse (as determined by the coaching staff) may result in the swimmer being removed from the lineup for their next committed meet.
- Sufficient excuses include, but are not limited to, illness, family emergencies, and other unavoidable circumstances.
- Late Arrivals
- Swimmers are expected to arrive at meets on time for warm-ups and their scheduled events.
- Late arrivals may result in the swimmer being scratched from their events.
