Anti-Bullying Policy
The Boaz Barracudas are committed to providing a safe, positive, and inclusive environment for all swimmers, coaches, parents, and volunteers. Bullying, harassment, and discrimination of any kind will not be tolerated.
Definition of Bullying:
- Bullying is defined as repeated and/or severe negative behavior by one or more persons that is intended to harm or intimidate another person. It can take many forms, including:
- Physical Bullying:
- Hitting, kicking, pushing, or other physical violence.
- Damaging or stealing personal belongings.
- Threatening physical harm.
- Verbal Bullying
- Name-calling, teasing, insults, or put-downs.
- Spreading rumors or gossip.
- Making threats or intimidating statements.
- Social/Emotional Bullying
- Excluding someone from activities or social groups.
- Ignoring or isolating someone.
- Manipulating friendships.
- Spreading rumors or gossip.
- Cyberbullying
- Using electronic communication (e.g., social media, text messages, emails) to bully or harass someone.
- Posting or sharing embarrassing photos or videos.
- Sending threatening or harassing messages.
Reporting Bullying
- Any team member who believes they are being bullied or who witnesses bullying is encouraged to report it immediately to:
- A coach
- A team official
- A trusted adult
- Reports can be made verbally or in writing.
Disciplinary Action
Disciplinary action for bullying may include, but is not limited to:
- Verbal warning
- Written warning
- Suspension from practices or meets
- Removal from the team
The severity of the disciplinary action will be determined by the coaching staff and/or team board, based on the nature and severity of the bullying.
Prevention
- Boaz Barracudas will promote a culture of respect and inclusion.
- Coaches will emphasize the importance of sportsmanship and teamwork.
- Team members will be encouraged to support and look out for one another.
- The team will provide education and resources on bullying prevention.
